Six Ways to Save the Bees
Bee-informed: Read as much as you can about honeybees and other pollinators! National geographic, the Honeybee Conservative, Healthy Hive Foundation blog posts, and the American Beekeeping Federation have informative articles about the honeybee and other important pollinators.
Shop smart: buy local honey and groceries. By supporting local growers and beekeepers, you’re supporting sustainable agriculture and honey harvesting! Even eating organic fruits and veggies goes a long way.
Mix it up: Plant bee-friendly flowers with different colors, shapes and bloom times. By spicing up your lawn and garden you can not only boost the health of your garden but also provide bees with the pollen they need to sustain their hives.
Don’t spray it! Avoid using herbicides or pesticides in your garden. They contain chemicals that are very harmful to bees and other beneficial insects. Instead, try some natural alternatives. Ladybugs, spiders, and praying mantises will naturally keep pest populations in check.
Share the buzz. Follow Healthy Hive Foundation on social media, and follow other honeybee advocates. Share facts, stories, and videos. Social media is an awesome and easy way to help spread the word.
Buy from social good businesses. There are many great products that support the cause of saving the bees. Buy from social good companies, and buy local. Your support goes a long way.
